Munson kicks off 2026 flu vaccination events Oct. 2

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kansas — Munson Army Health Center will begin its 2026 seasonal influenza vaccination campaign Oct. 2 with the first of five community vaccination events at Frontier Chapel.

“We have received our supply of flu vaccine suitable for beneficiaries age 6 months and older. We are still awaiting our supply of the high dose flu vaccine, typically given to patients age 65 and older and as medically indicated,” said 1st Lt. Kennedy Reeves, Chief of Public Health. “It usually arrives around the same time as the regular dose so we expect it anytime. We will update our community once it arrives.”

The events are open to all TRICARE beneficiaries ages 6 months and older, including those enrolled in TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Select and TRICARE For Life.

The first event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Frontier Chapel, 625 Thomas Ave., Fort Leavenworth.
Additional vaccination events at Frontier Chapel are scheduled for:
• Oct. 16, noon–4 p.m.
• Oct. 27, 2–6 p.m.
• Nov. 6, noon–4 p.m.
• Nov. 20, noon–4 p.m.
Annual influenza vaccination is an important way to reduce the risk of flu and its potentially serious complications, according to Reeves.

“Vaccination is especially important for people at increased risk of severe illness, including young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with certain chronic medical conditions,” said Reeves.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone ages 6 months and older who does not have a contraindication. For most people, September and October are generally the best times to be vaccinated, although vaccination later in the season can still provide protection.

Beneficiaries aged 10 years and older should bring their Department of War identification card. Children ages 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
